For more than 25 years, I have counseled adolescents, young adults and families. My biggest passion is bringing young people together in groups to share their experiences and connect with their peers so that they can understand that they are truly not alone.
In individual, family and group therapy, I believe that relationships are key and therefore I work hard to connect kids to their peers, families and communities. In therapy, often this connection starts with me. I consider myself an eclectic therapist who believes first and foremost in the therapeutic relationship. I respect the strengths and the struggles that clients bring into therapy. In fact, I feel a sense of privilege when clients are willing to share with me the issues that deeply trouble them. Their willingness to share themselves with me is necessary for me to be able to help them.
I consider myself a collaborative therapist, meaning that if helpful to my client, with their expressed consent, I contact and speak to other professionals involved in their lives. Such contacts can be with psychiatrists, former therapists, school personnel and even family doctors. This collaboration often helps all of us better help the client.
I bring my personality into the therapy room. I consider myself to be honest, non-judgmental, straightforward, active and non-fluffy. I don't believe in using a great deal of jargon and I often frown upon the use of diagnosis as a way to describe or define a client. Yes, diagnosis can be informative but it shouldn't define us! Clients have appreciated my directness, my input and my genuineness. I am active and sometimes directive as I believe that most people don't come to therapy to be nodded at with no feedback or input. Helping clients feel comfortable enough to express themselves is another key to progress.
Professionally, I earned a BA in Psychology from SUNY Binghamton in 1985, an MS in Counseling Psychology from SUNY Albany in 1986, and an MSW from Hunter College in 1992. I've been in private practice at since 1999. Previously, I directed a mental health agency for kids and families in Philadelphia, provided therapy to inner-city youth and families in Brooklyn, worked with teens in residential treatment in upstate NY and conducted home studies for families seeking adoption.
On a personal note, I am originally from New York; I moved to Media in 1994. I am the mother of two young adults and a rescue pit bull named Riley. I'm generally on the go and love to travel and wander around new cities. I recently started organizing fundraisers for local organizations such as the Media Food Bank, the Chester Children's Chorus & Philly Bully Team. In my free time, I love to cook, knit, go for walks and search out great coffee shops.

I have worked with adolescents and their families for over 25 years and I continue to be passionate about working with young people and helping to support them with their emotional, behavioral, and social development. I am often in awe of the strengths and talents young people possess and assisting them in their growth is a rewarding privilege.
I maintain a very direct and honest approach and find these qualities appreciated within the therapeutic relationship. I believe in treating the whole person in the full context of his or her life which includes interpersonal relationships, family systems, and the community. Supporting a young person through the many struggles and difficulties of adolescence is paramount towards the goal of healthy independence.
I earned a BS in Community and Family Services from the University of Delaware, and a Masters in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania. I also earned certification in secondary guidance counseling from Villanova University. I have worked at the Juvenile Court in Delaware County as a probation officer and as the counselor for an alternative high school for at-risk students.
I am originally a Jersey girl but have called Pennsylvania home for over 30 years. I have two sons in their 20s and three spoiled cats.
